C.X. Silver Gallery

West Brattleboro, Vermont;/br>
June 5 through 30
This premier group exhibition of Brattleboro-West Arts, which will feature work by 14 or more artists — including painters, glass blowers, textile artists, sculptors, potters and woodworkers — will
open the night before Brattleboro’s popular Strolling of the Heifers parade. The festive atmosphere, combined with a pleasing diversity of work and consistently high quality, will make the five-minute drive from downtown well worth it. The show is a preview of the upcoming Sept. 19-20 tour of artists’ studios throughout West Brattleboro and Marlboro.
“One of the exciting things about this community,” said violin maker Doug Cox, “is that it’s small enough to bring together artists of many different types. Visual artists, culinary artists, musicians....” The single goal is “to strive for excellence and beauty,” he said, no matter the medium.
“One can find some common threads, however. The exhibit will include pieces by at least four woodworkers, all of whom use local wood. Cox himself actually moved to Vermont in part because he wanted to be closer to the maple trees he turns into violins.
