Do you use social media (facebook, twitter, etc.) to promote your exhibitions and have you benefited from these efforts and how?
Jean Barton:We only recently created a facebook page. We were thrilled to see how fast fans signed up and expect
that when we announce our new FB page in our
next e-newsletter, we will have many more. We had
delayed creating a facebook page simply because
with all our events, promotions and continuously
bringing in new artists and products, there
was always a higher priority. But, lately, social
networking has been such a huge buzz, we knew
it was time. We’re looking forward to seeing how
it affects our business and using it as a marketing
and networking tool. (Celebrations Gallery, Pomfret
Center, Connecticut)
Nahid Khaki:Being on facebook and twitter is mainly about exposure. By promoting our exhibitions and
artists on facebook and twitter, we expose the
work for the Internet world to see. As artists, we
need an audience to see our work. The work has
its own destiny out there in the world; it is our
job to expose it regardless of material benefits.
Sometimes our only rewards are comments people
make or friends and followers we find. (Khaki
Gallery, Boston)
Michael Montanaro:When used effectively, social media can be
an amazing economic resource for marketing,
education and public relations. We have utilized
numerous social networks since opening Montanaro
Gallery, and have benefited from an increase in
web presence, larger reception attendance and a
boost in online sales. Currently we are working on
a video documentary series featuring interviews of
our artists, as well as time-lapses of them painting,
for YouTube and other social networks. (Montanaro
Gallery, Portsmouth, Rhode Island)
